The Lord Is Good

Nahum 1:7 (NASB)
"The LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble, and He knows those who take refuge in Him."

There is none greater than God, who cares for our needs moment by moment, who is there for us in good times and bad. Life is often full of various kinds of trouble, ranging from the minor to the catastrophic. Those who do not know God, or experience a lapse of faith in Him, become strangers to Him. They often fall prey to despair and hopelessness. They have no shelter from the beating sun, or the pelting rain. They drown in an ocean of sorrows or suffer unceasing thirst in a merciless desert. When the armies of darkness focus their attack on such people, they are trapped in an open field.

But if one turns to the Lord, that person will experience His goodness, His mercy, His forgiveness, His love. That person will no longer be a stranger. In times of trouble He will be a cool shade in under the hot sun, and the umbrella that helps one home in the stinging rain. The Lord is the lifeboat that rescues the one drowning who turns to Him, and the life-giving water to the one dying of thirst in the desert. The one who places trust in the Lord has a walled fortress in which to take refuge from dark forces bent on bringing destruction.

The Lord knows all those who rely on Him, who place faith in Him. And He is a sure refuge for them. That is why the Lord is good.
